Penya Africa and its European label management are proud to present the debut album by Sauti Sol, a vibrant quartet of gifted young musicians.

Bien-Aime Baraza, Willis Chimano, Delvin Mudigi and Polycarp Otieno met in high school and originally started as an accapella group. In 2005, after clearing their O-levels, they decided to take up music professionally. Their inspiration comes from the music of Fadhili Williams, Daudi Kabaka and other established African artists such as Salif Keita and Lokua Kanza.

Following the footsteps of previous Penya/Uptoyoutoo releases, "Mwanzo" is yet another fulfilling musical journey with young urban Nairobi as its starting point. The band is influenced by the choices, consequences and challenges that the Kenyan youth face and the need to revamp the music industry with a different sound that cuts across all age groups. "Mwanzo" transmits all of this: beautiful vocal harmonies, elegant guitar chords, catchy choruses, blended in an African/Urban fusion giving it a unique feel.

As a performing band, Sauti Sol had their first show at the Nairobi Alliance Francaise and over the last 3 years that has been their haven. In 2006 they were finalists of the Spotlight on Kenyan Music contest, in May 2009 they shared the stage with South African sensation Lira and Eric Wainaina at the South meets East event at the National Museum. Their current hitsong "Lazizi" has left its mark on the most recent Tusker Project Fame 2 as more than 150 contestants used the song during the auditions including one of the finalists. After their, European tour and supported by an ever-expanding fan base they are increasingly referred to as the most popular band Kenya currently knows. It is clear that Sauti Sol are here to leave their mark.
